1. Dominic Vignola teaches a panting process that allows you to quickly achieve incredibile painting success without any drawing. Dominic will be teaching at the the Learning Product Expo in Burbank CA, Oct. 5-8 (The Learning website will be fully updated for October 06 within a couple of weeks) He will be at the Art of the Carolinas in Raliegh NC, Nov. 9 - 12. Although it may be early to see his updated class schedule, these classes fill up quickly. At Each show there will be 4 intense 6 hour classes. We were just in his class setting in Washington DC, and all the students were thrilled with the results that they obtained. Please e-mail questions about this video or how to get classes organized in your area. |
2. Tonal Painting uses a pre-set tonal palette where all major color families are laid out in different value steps (in the case of the Vignola system, 5 values). Mixtures are made only within each value step and then applied to the canvas as the artist sees and interprets the light and dark values in the subject.

3. Most people find painting without drawing very liberating soon after they get going on the method. There are certain simple things that you need to do. One is to squint (limit the light of your view in a relaxed way) both at the subject and your work. It reduces the detail that you see as you gradually build the tones and move toward the finishing stages of the work. Other principles are observing from a distant view point, also mixing the colors back at that view point. Here we are just plain talking about the method. |
